An early twentieth-century Kansas family begins a new life with the arrival of Sarah, a mail-order bride; struggles through a drought; and copes with the return of Jacob's estranged father.
Jacob's farm is in trouble from a severe drought. Jacob and Sarah begin to wonder if Sarah can stay, and what will happen to Jacob if she and the children have to leave the farm.
